You Are Here – Changde
Starbucks You Are Here – Changde is supposedly the first one from the new batch of 11 Chinese mugs coming this Fall. You heard it right, Starbucks is adding 11 new YAHs for China in addition to dozens released already. Well, more mugs, more fun. It is also an opportunity to learn something new about the places you’ve never been to before (but probably going to visit someday).
The first mentions of the settlement in this area are dating back to as far as 8,000 years ago. Since then, the city has changed names several times, and became known as Changde since the 12th century. Some probably heard of the Battle of Changde, which was a major event during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–45) where the Imperial Japanese Army extensively used chemical weapons.
As for the mug, it is designed using calm, but still great looking colors, especially those shades of pink.
Here are some places worth visiting when traveling to Changde:
– The Peach Garden is a place to go if you’re looking for some quiet and relaxing atmosphere where you can enjoy beautiful scenic views of nature.
– Changde River Street has a rich history. The cultural and commerce legacy was almost lost due to wars and floods, however, it has been restored and now serves as a touristic destination with its ancient buildings, dining, folk opera performance, river cruises, and shopping.
– Changde Poem Wall got into Guinness World Records book as the longest wall with engraved arts on it. But it also serves as a two-mile-long anti-flood barrier alongside the Yuanjiang River.
