Been There – Leon
Here’s Starbucks Been There – Leon from 2018 which is the biggest city in the Mexican state of Guanajuato. For some reason, it was missing from my list.
The hot air balloons on the front of the mug are referring to The Leon International Balloon Festival, which is the biggest of its kind in Latin America. It takes place annually since 2002.
You can also see the boots, the belt, and the bag, on the side of the mug. That’s for the leather industry of the city, which offers numerous products within Mexico and well outside of the country. Interestingly enough, because of the chemicals used in the process of treating the leather, the workwear (and aprons in particular) of the people employed in its manufacturing has always stained green. That’s why the citizens of Leon, are sometimes called “Los Panzas Verdes (“Green bellies”). By the way, the local soccer team has the same nickname as well.
