You Are Here – Thessaloniki
Starbucks You Are Here – Thessaloniki is another mug from Greece, released recently. Thessaloniki is the second-largest city in the country, located on the north shore of the Aegean Sea. As pretty much anything in Greece it has a long history of periods of prosperity as well as periods of wars and occupation. Some of which led to considerable destruction of the city buildings. Nonetheless, it was always a major port and hub of the Kingdom of Macedon then the Roman Empire then the Byzantine Empire then the Ottoman Empire. This obviously resulted in multiple historical monuments and points of interest which attract many tourists from Europe and around the world. On top of that, Thessaloniki is now considered to be Greece’s cultural capital with its festivals, events, and vibrant cultural life.
As for the mug, the White Tower of Thessaloniki can be seen on the front of it. The tower was built by the Ottomans and was likely replacing an older Byzantine tower. It was used as a fortress, garrison, and prison back in the days. It is now adopted as the symbol of the city and servers as the museum and observation tower.
