Been There – Dalian

Been There – Dalian is a mug for a major port city in northeastern China, that has a rich and complex history shaped by its strategic location on the Liaodong Peninsula. Originally a small fishing village, it gained prominence in the late 19th century when imperial powers vied for control. The Russians developed it as a naval base and named it Port Arthur, but after the Russo-Japanese War (1904–1905), Japan took over and transformed the city with modern infrastructure and urban planning.… Read more

Discovery Series Ornament – Miami

Here comes Discovery Series Ornament – Miami from a vibrant coastal city in Florida.

Miami’s history is shaped by indigenous roots, pioneering settlers, and waves of immigration. Originally home to the Tequesta people for over a thousand years, the area began to change in the 19th century when settlers arrived and the U.S. Army built Fort Dallas during the Second Seminole War. The city’s growth accelerated in 1896 when Julia Tuttle, often called the “Mother of Miami,” convinced Henry Flagler to bring his railroad south, leading to Miami’s incorporation.… Read more

Been There – Sendai

It seems that the design of the Starbucks Been There – Sendai mug is all about local foods and local crafts.

– The Sendai Tanabata Festival is one of Japan’s most famous summer festivals, celebrated every August with colorful decorations. The city is adorned with massive streamers made of paper and bamboo, each handmade by local shops and schools. The festival is based on the ancient legend of star-crossed lovers Orihime and Hikoboshi. During the celebration, the streets come alive with music, dancing, and traditional food stalls, attracting visitors from across the country.… Read more

Discovery Series – South Dakota

Discovery Series – South Dakota is larger than the ornament I reviewed earlier and features more design elements. Let’s go over those that were added:

Ellsworth Air Force Base, located near Rapid City, is one of South Dakota’s most significant military installations. Established in 1942, it has played a vital role in the nation’s defense, particularly during the Cold War, when it housed B-52 bombers and intercontinental ballistic missiles. Today, it remains an active base, home to the 28th Bomb Wing and a key part of the U.S.… Read more

Discovery Series Ornament – Detroit

Here is the mini mug for the “Motor City.” I really like the purple color inside the Discovery Series Ornament – Detroit. I only wish the string matched the same color. Unfortunately, all Discovery ornaments come with a green string.

Detroit, founded in 1701 by French explorer Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, has a rich and complex history that reflects the broader American story of industry, innovation, and resilience. Originally a fur trading post, the city grew into a major industrial hub in the early 20th century, earning the nickname “Motor City” as the birthplace of the modern automotive industry.… Read more

You Are Here – Brno

Starbucks You Are Here – Brno is a mug for the cultural and administrative heart of Moravia in the Czech Republic. Once a medieval stronghold, Brno has witnessed centuries of transformation, from its 13th-century origins as a royal city to its role as a major industrial center of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The city’s historic core still showcases Gothic and Baroque architecture, while landmarks like Špilberk Castle and the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul echo tales of sieges and resilience. Today, Brno blends its storied past with a vibrant modern identity, making it a city of tradition, innovation, and enduring charm.… Read more

Been There – Jinan

Been There – Jinan is the mug for the capital of Shandong Province in eastern China, which has a rich history that spans over 4,000 years. Originally known as Lixia during the Zhou Dynasty, it became a significant city in the state of Qi. The name “Jinan,” meaning “south of the Ji River,” reflects its geographical roots, as the Ji River once flowed nearby. Throughout its history, Jinan has served as a cultural and administrative hub, witnessing the rise and fall of various dynasties, including the Han, Tang, and Song.… Read more

Discovery Series – Warner Bros. Studios

While Starbucks is releasing quite a few mugs from the new collection on a daily basis, I’m trying to share the most interesting ones with you first. Discovery Series – Warner Bros. Studios is a good example of a location that didn’t receive Starbucks mugs before. I haven’t seen the ornament yet, but I really hope it comes out soon. Interestingly enough, the bottom of the mug has a small ‘Warner Bros.’ logo that distinguishes it from other Discovery mugs; however, the box is standard.… Read more

Discovery Series Star Wars Ornament – Geonosis

And last but not least in the trio is the Discovery Series Star Wars Ornament – Geonosis. Now that I think about it, we have four Star Wars Discovery mugs, but only three ornaments. For some reason, Starbucks never released an ornament for the Hoth mug. Is that something we can still expect in the future? I really hope so.

Geonosis holds a significant place in the Star Wars universe as the spark that ignited the Clone Wars. Introduced in Episode II: Attack of the Clones, this desert-like planet was the site of pivotal events involving major characters, including Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Jango Fett, among others.… Read more
