Discovery Series Ornament – Singapore
These are official images of the Discovery Series Ornament Singapore taken from the Starbucks website, and all credits go to them. According to the Starbucks blog, the mug and ornament are scheduled to be released tomorrow, January 28. This makes Singapore the second country in Asia, after Korea, to receive items from the Discovery collection. One thing to note is that the cover of the box is plain and simple, with just one variation of the collection name on it: Discovery Series.
Singapore is a modern city-state shaped by its strategic location along major maritime routes and its rapid development after gaining self-governance in 1959 and independence in 1965. From a former trading port to a global financial and travel hub, the country is known for its efficient infrastructure, multicultural society, and forward-looking urban planning. This balance of history and innovation is reflected throughout the mug’s design.
– The city skyline is represented with a vibrant cluster of landmarks, including the towering observation wheel known as the Singapore Flyer. Rising above Marina Bay, it offers sweeping views of the city and surrounding waters, symbolizing Singapore’s growth into a world-class metropolis. The skyline captures the blend of modern architecture and careful city planning that defines Singapore today.
– An airplane and control tower highlight Changi Airport, one of the busiest and most awarded airports in the world. Serving as a major international hub, Changi connects Singapore to hundreds of destinations across the globe. Its reliance on air travel reflects the nation’s role as a gateway between Asia and the rest of the world.
– The iconic Merlion, depicted as a lion with a fish’s body, represents Singapore’s origins as a fishing village and its name, which means “Lion City.” Located at Merlion Park, the statue has become one of the country’s most recognizable symbols. It stands for strength, prosperity, and Singapore’s maritime heritage.
– Floral elements on the mug reference Vanda Miss Joaquim, Singapore’s national flower. This resilient orchid was chosen for its year-round blooming and vibrant colours, reflecting the nation’s values of strength, determination, and continuous progress. The flower symbolizes both natural beauty and national pride in a highly urban setting.
