Star Wars Been There – Batuu
Here’s Star Wars Been There – Batuu, the release that I’ve mentioned in my previous post. It makes it the fourth mug from this mini collection.
In the Star Wars universe, Batuu is a remote terrestrial planet on the edge of the galaxy’s Outer Rim Territories. Batuu was once covered by massive trees, that later transformed into stone towers after a cataclysm. These formations, referred to by local Batuuans as “spires”, became landmarks for settlers. Black Spire Outpost is the largest settlement on the planet, which was a busy stop for travelers before the invention of hyperspace travel. Because the new hyperspace routes bypassed the planet, it evolved into a thriving spaceport for smugglers, rogue traders, and people who did not want to be found.
A person that is not very familiar with the Star Wars franchise might ask what movie this planet is coming from? A true Star Wars fan knows the answer: “None!”.
The Black Spire Outpost was actually made a central part of “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge” – a themed land that was constructed in both Disneyland (opened on May 31, 2019) and Disney’s Hollywood Studios (opened on August 29, 2019). As per the creators of Galaxy’s Edge, the idea of the land is to allow guests to make their own “Star Wars” story when they step inside.
The front of the mug showcases one of the two attractions of the area: Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run. It puts visitors into the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon, where they each have a specific job during a mission.
The back of the mug is dedicated to Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, the second attraction in the land. It invites visitors to join the battle between the Resistance and the First Order inside the most technologically advanced theme park attraction in existence today. It features four interworking ride systems in conjunction with Audio-Animatronics, practical sets, projection mapping, and screen-based media.
And the last thing I would like to mention is that the cover of the box has the actual name of the location printed on it. It means the covers are not interchangeable with other boxes from this series. The three mugs from the last year didn’t have this feature. Keep this in mind when trading or buying them online.
