Been There – Florida International University

Been There – Florida International University is the first out of at least four “University Mugs” that I’ve heard are coming out soon. It seems that Starbucks is expanding the list of Been There mugs by adding new types of locations and we’ve seen the trend with Star Wars and Yosemite mugs. It adds variety and attracts new collectors on one hand, but also can blow your budget on the other hand (in case you decide to collect the whole series). With that being said, it is important to remember to choose your battles wisely and always make sure you enjoy collecting and not just chasing the number of mugs.
As for the FIU mug, there is one interesting detail I would like to mention, and that’s actually the box. It seems that Starbucks is going to group these four (and potentially more) mugs under the “Campus Collection” name (see the picture of the top cover of the box below). It also adds “Show your school spirit on the quad and post-grad” implying that either you’re the current student or the former one, this mug makes great memorabilia.
Another unique feature of this release is the sticker on the bottom of the mug (see the picture below). It has a QR code that you can scan to confirm the identity of the mug through the Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) verification system. It ensures you’re buying the official merchandise of this college or university. This could be a very important protection measure when buying mugs from 3rd party sellers.
