Discovery Series – Texas
Starbucks Discovery Series – Texas joins the new collection too! It was rumored that the release of the Discovery Series is going to start on April 9, but it seems that many locations started selling them much earlier! If you’re excited to see what these mugs look like in person, I suggest you check your favorite local Starbucks store today: the mugs could already be there.
The design of the Discovery Series Texas mug features the same green sphere or circle that we’ve seen already. I believe this will be the case for all the mugs from this collection. I am still not quite sure what it symbolizes, so if you have any ideas, share them in the comments below.
And for the symbols and points of interest for the Lone Star State, here they are:
– The rose holds significance in Texas as the state flower. Specifically, the “The Yellow Rose of Texas” has a legendary status in Texan folklore, immortalized in songs and stories. It symbolizes the spirit of Texas’s independence and resilience, particularly during the Texas Revolution. Additionally, roses are widely cultivated in Texas and hold cultural importance in various events, such as weddings, festivals, and commemorations.
– Barbecue is deeply ingrained in Texas culture for several reasons. Its historical roots trace back to early settlers and indigenous cooking methods, evolving over time into a rich culinary tradition. Texas’s abundant beef, particularly brisket, reflects the state’s thriving cattle industry and is slow-smoked to perfection, embodying the essence of Texas barbecue. Regional diversity adds to its allure, with Central Texas known for its minimalist approach, East Texas for its saucy meats, and West Texas for its mesquite-smoked flavors. Beyond food, barbecue serves as a social glue, bringing communities together for gatherings, celebrations, and festivals. This cultural phenomenon extends beyond state lines, attracting visitors worldwide and contributing to Texas’s culinary tourism industry. In essence, Texas barbecue represents more than just a meal – it symbolizes history, community, and culinary artistry.
– Texas cowboys are emblematic of the state’s storied western heritage, embodying the rugged independence and frontier spirit that define Texan identity. With roots tracing back to the 19th century, cowboys played a vital role in driving the cattle industry, herding livestock across vast expanses of open range. Renowned for their horsemanship, resilience, and code of honor, Texas cowboys became iconic figures in American folklore, celebrated in literature, film, and art.
These are the traditional symbols associated with the cowboys that designers added to the mug:
– The cowboy hat, typically wide-brimmed with a creased crown, is a quintessential symbol of Texas cowboys. It provided protection from the sun and elements during long days working on the open range.
– Cowboy boots, often adorned with intricate stitching and made of durable leather, are essential footwear for Texas cowboys. Spurs, worn on the heels, symbolize the cowboy’s connection to horsemanship and ranching.
– Perhaps the most iconic symbol of the Texas cowboy is the horse. Cowboys rely on their horses for transportation, herding cattle, and navigating the rugged terrain of the open range. The bond between cowboy and horse is central to cowboy culture and symbolizes the cowboy’s connection to the land and livestock.
– The Texas State Capitol stands as an iconic symbol of Texan history, culture, and government. Completed in 1888, this majestic granite building in Austin serves as the seat of Texas’s state government, housing the offices of the Governor, Legislature, and other state officials. With its stunning Renaissance Revival architecture, including a dome taller than the U.S. Capitol’s, the Texas State Capitol is not only an architectural marvel but also a testament to the state’s rich heritage and independent spirit.
The green circle represents the green that Starbucks uses in their logo and that is the shape of their Siren logo. This is apparent in the coffee cups that they serve where it is a green circle with a siren. This is just more simplified but evokes that brand recognition for its consumers.
