Starbucks Discovery Series Denver is a mug for the “Mile High City”. Its history begins with its founding in 1858 during the Pike’s Peak Gold Rush, when prospectors established a mining camp at the confluence of the South Platte River and Cherry Creek. The city was officially incorporated in 1861 and named after James W. Denver, the governor of Kansas Territory. Denver became the capital of Colorado when the state joined the Union in 1876, transforming from a rough frontier town into a thriving commercial hub. The arrival of the railroad in 1870 cemented Denver’s role as the economic and transportation center of the Rocky Mountain region, while the silver boom of the 1880s and later oil discoveries fueled decades of growth and prosperity.
– The outdoor activities depicted throughout the design celebrate Denver’s unparalleled access to Rocky Mountain recreation that defines the city’s lifestyle. World-class ski resorts lie just an hour west, offering some of North America’s best powder skiing and snowboarding from November through April. During warmer months, endless hiking trails wind through mountain forests and alpine meadows, with fourteeners (14,000-foot peaks) challenging ambitious climbers. – The Colorado State Capitol, illustrated on the mug, is Denver’s iconic government building crowned with a gleaming gold dome. Completed in 1894 and modelled after the U.S. Capitol, its 15th step marks exactly one mile above sea level, giving Denver its famous nickname.
