Discovery Series Ornament – Virginia
When compared to the bigger mug, the design of the Discovery Series Virginia Ornament has much fewer elements. I went through most of the symbols and landmarks here, but let me at least mention the ones that made it into the design of the ornament:
– The Virginia state bird is the Northern Cardinal, adopted in 1950 for its vibrant plumage and melodious song.
– Virginia’s state flower, the American Dogwood, was designated in 1918, celebrated for its delicate blossoms that grace the state’s landscape.
– The Blue Crab, named Virginia’s state crustacean in 1989, represents both culinary delight and the rich aquatic ecosystems along the Chesapeake Bay.
The pier on the front of the ornament is definitely a nod to the fact that Virginia’s coastline stretches for approximately 112 miles along the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay, offering a variety of activities and attractions for visitors to enjoy. The coastline is home to numerous beautiful beaches, each with its own unique charm and recreational opportunities.
Virginia Beach holds the Guinness World Record for having the longest pleasure beach. With its 35-mile coastline of sandy shores, visitors can enjoy an extensive stretch of pristine beachfront, perfect for relaxation, beach activities, and breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean.
– Virginia is home to several mountain ranges, including the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Allegheny Mountains. The Blue Ridge Mountains, known for their scenic beauty, are part of the larger Appalachian Mountain chain and feature attractions like the Blue Ridge Parkway and a portion of the Appalachian Trail. The state’s highest point, Mount Rogers, is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Allegheny Mountains, on the other hand, offer opportunities for outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, fishing, and boating.
