Discovery Series Star Wars – Kashyyyk
The second mug from the recently announced trio is the Discovery Series Star Wars – Kashyyyk. What I like about these is that the circle on the front of the mug has a custom color, depending on the planet. It is, unfortunately, not the case for the state and city mugs – they all have the same dark green color circle.
Kashyyyk, the lush, forest-covered homeworld of the Wookiees, is one of the most iconic planets in the Star Wars galaxy. Towering wroshyr trees cover the landscape, and the Wookiees have built complex cities high among the branches. Throughout its history, Kashyyyk has been a symbol of natural beauty, fierce loyalty, and resilience, surviving invasions, occupations, and wars that have scarred its otherwise stunning wilderness.
Tree City of Kachirho
Kachirho, one of Kashyyyk’s grandest cities, is built among the massive wroshyr trees and served as a stronghold during the Battle of Kashyyyk. Its walkways and platforms weave seamlessly into the forest canopy, showcasing Wookiee engineering and respect for nature. The city remains a cultural heart and symbol of Wookiee endurance.
Here are some memorable moments from the Star Wars saga set on Kashyyyk:
Battle of Kashyyyk (Clone Wars)
During the Clone Wars, Kashyyyk became a major battleground as the Republic fought to defend the planet from the Separatist droid army. Jedi Masters Yoda, Luminara Unduli, and Quinlan Vos led efforts alongside the Wookiees to repel the invasion. Despite their bravery, the betrayal of Order 66 turned the tide, leading to a brutal occupation under the Empire.
Imperial Occupation
After the rise of the Galactic Empire, Kashyyyk was subjugated and its Wookiee population enslaved. The dense forests were ravaged by Imperial forces seeking to exploit the planet’s resources and labor. Many Wookiees, including the famed Chewbacca, were forced into servitude or fled to join the Rebellion.
Liberation by the New Republic
Years after the fall of the Empire, Kashyyyk was liberated by forces of the New Republic. The victory restored freedom to the Wookiee people, who began rebuilding their homes and replanting the forests. Chewbacca himself played a key role in the liberation efforts, standing as a hero of his people.
