You Are Here – Bursa
There are quite a few recent releases from the YAH series that Starbucks keeps expanding! One of them is the You Are Here Bursa mug for a city in northwestern Turkey. Bursa is a city rich in history and significance as the first major capital of the Ottoman Empire. Founded in the early centuries as a key trading center along the Silk Road, it gained prominence under Ottoman rule in the 14th century. During this time, Bursa flourished as a commerce, culture, and religious architecture hub. Its historic landmarks, such as the Grand Mosque (Ulu Cami) and the Green Mosque (Yeşil Cami), showcase its architectural grandeur. Bursa also became known for its silk production and lush gardens, earning it the nickname “Green Bursa.” The city’s deep historical roots continue to influence its cultural identity today.
The front of the mug showcases the city’s skyline and is beautifully framed by the towering Uludağ Mountains, which dominate the background with their majestic peaks. The mountains, often snow-covered during winter, create a striking natural contrast to the city’s bustling urban environment.

It’s a popular attraction for tourists and locals alike, especially for those visiting Uludağ for hiking or skiing.
The Tophane Clocktower, located in Bursa’s historic Tophane district, is a prominent symbol of the city. Standing tall with panoramic views over Bursa, the clocktower is a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike. Originally built during the reign of Sultan Abdülaziz in the late 19th century, the tower adds to the charm of the surrounding area, which includes Ottoman-era tombs and lush gardens.
Bursa is famously associated with cherries and peaches, particularly its sweet and juicy varieties. The city is known for producing high-quality Bursa black figs, which are prized both locally and internationally for their rich flavor. These fruits, especially the black figs, are a key part of Bursa’s agricultural identity and a popular export.
The ceramic tile with the pattern on the back of the mug is probably related to Iznik pottery. It is a renowned form of Ottoman ceramics, known for its intricate hand-painted designs featuring floral motifs, geometric patterns, and vibrant colors like cobalt blue, turquoise, and red. Originating in the town of Iznik near Bursa, these ceramics were highly prized for their beauty and craftsmanship, often used to decorate mosques, palaces, and other significant buildings.
