You Are Here – Ho Chi Minh City 2
Absolutely out of nowhere, You Are Here Ho Chi Minh City 2 was revealed to the world. I am tired of sounding like a broken record, but Starbucks managed to surprise me again! And the reason no one was expecting this, is that Starbucks already released Been There version of the mug for this city more than three years ago!
You Are Here Ho Chi Minh v2 is a complete copy of the first version in terms of the design elements, however, the color palette is completely different. I tried to find any new details, and could not. I have two mugs compared side-by-side below, so you can see for yourself.
Both of the mugs feature Ho Chi Minh City Hall. It is a majestic French colonial architectural gem, which stands as an iconic landmark in the heart of Vietnam’s bustling metropolis. Completed in 1908 by the French architect Gardès, this historic building showcases a blend of neoclassical and Baroque design elements. Its grand facade adorned with intricate details exudes a sense of grandeur, while its elegant clock tower commands attention against the city skyline. Serving as the headquarters of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, the hall remains a symbol of governance and a testament to the city’s rich cultural heritage, attracting visitors from around the globe to admire its beauty and significance.
Phu My Bridge spans gracefully across the Saigon River, connecting District 2 and District 7. Completed in 2009, this cable-stayed bridge stands as a modern engineering marvel, with its sleek design and soaring pylons adding to the city’s skyline. Stretching over 1.55 miles, the bridge facilitates smoother transportation and eases congestion, playing a crucial role in the city’s infrastructure.
Ben Thanh Market, nestled in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, is a bustling center of commerce and culture. Dating back to the 19th century, it offers a diverse range of goods from fresh produce to handicrafts, all under its iconic clock tower. This vibrant marketplace provides a sensory immersion into Vietnamese daily life and heritage, making it a must-visit destination for travelers seeking an authentic experience in the city.
The back of the mug showcases the skyline of the city. I would like to mention two skyscrapers that I was able to identify:
– The Bitexco Financial Tower is a prominent skyscraper designed by Carlos Zapata. It stands at a height of 861 feet with 68 floors, making it the second-tallest building in the city and the fifth-tallest in Vietnam. The tower features Vietnam’s first non-rooftop helipad on the 52nd floor and is known for hosting the annual HCMC Skyrun stair-climbing race. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the city from the 49th-floor Saigon Skydeck. The lower floors house the Icon 68 shopping and dining center, while the upper floors are dedicated to office spaces.
– Landmark 81, towering majestically in Ho Chi Minh City’s skyline, is a symbol of Vietnam’s ambition and progress. Completed in 2018, this skyscraper stands as the tallest building in the country, soaring to a height of 1,513 feet. Designed with modernity and luxury in mind, Landmark 81 houses a mix of residential apartments, offices, a shopping mall, and a hotel, offering a truly integrated urban living experience. Its sleek, futuristic design and breathtaking views from the observation deck attract both locals and tourists alike, serving as a beacon of Vietnam’s economic prosperity and architectural innovation.
