You Are Here Ornament – Krakow
You Are Here Ornament – Krakow is the second in a row city release from the YAH ornament series. Starbucks has been only releasing country ornaments recently, so it is nice to see that there is more than that. There are certainly many countries that we, collectors, would like Starbucks to come up with the ornaments for, but it won’t hurt if cities are added to the schedule too!
When reviewing the full-sized mug, I didn’t mention the dragon on the right of the front of the mug, so I would like to give it attention now.
The Wawel Dragon a.k.a. the Dragon of Wawel Hill, is a very well know Polish folklore character. It is believed to live in a cave at the foot of Wawel Hill on the bank of the Vistula River. The dragon terrorized the locals demanding weekly offerings of cattle. There are different versions of who killed the beast, but one thing they have in common: the dragon was fed a calfskin stuffed with smoldering sulfur, causing his death. A Wawel Dragon Statue was installed here in 1972, which is a major touristic destination of the city. The most peculiar feature of the statue is that it can breathe fire every five minutes. It was recently modified to do that on-demand, by sending an SMS text message. This is definitely a thing to try when in Krakow!
