You Are Here – Rhodes
Even though we’ve just witnessed the release of the first BT mug outside of the Americas, YAH series is not over yet. This is Starbucks You Are Here – Rhodes mug from Greece.
Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese islands of Greece and is also the island group’s ancient capital. The island and the city have a rich historical past, which you can tell by its old buildings and monuments. Thanks to that and the great climate with long warm summers, it’s a very popular destination for tourists from all around the world.
– The Colossus of Rhodes was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, well known outside of the island. It represented a statue of the Greek sun-god Helios, erected at the entrance of the Mandraki harbor. The Colossus was built in 280 BC and only stood for 54 years to then be destroyed by the 226 BC earthquake.
– The Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes a.k.a. Kastello (“castle”) can be seen on the front of the mug. It was initially built as a citadel of the Knights Hospitaller and later functioned as a palace, headquarters, and fortress. It was converted to a museum in 1950s and is now a popular tourist destination.
