Discovery Series Ornament – Hong Kong Disneyland
Here is some exciting news from Hong Kong! As the new collection rolls out across Asia, I’ve spotted a brand-new release from a Disney-themed park. Interestingly, the Discovery Series Ornament Hong Kong Disneyland is being revealed before any other city or country mug or ornament from this region. As for the design, I’m slightly disappointed that Starbucks didn’t use a custom color for the circle on the front of the ornament, similar to what was done for the Disney releases in the US. The same goes for the string color. As you probably remember, all Disney mini mug from the Discovery collection has custom strings.
Hong Kong Disneyland opened its gates on September 12, 2005, on Lantau Island, marking the first Disney theme park in China and the second in Asia after Tokyo. Built through a partnership between The Walt Disney Company and the Hong Kong SAR Government, the park has steadily expanded over the years with new lands, attractions, and entertainment offerings. Major transformations have included the multi-year expansion that introduced immersive themed areas and reimagined the original castle into a grand new icon. Today, Hong Kong Disneyland blends classic Disney storytelling with local influences, drawing visitors from across Asia and around the world.
Discover some of the symbols and attractions of Hong Kong Disneyland as reflected in the design of the mug.
– Castle of Magical Dreams stands at the heart of the park as its reimagined centrepiece. Unveiled in 2020, the castle replaced the original Sleeping Beauty Castle and honors multiple Disney princesses and queens through its varied architectural styles. Its colorful towers and intricate details create a dramatic focal point for daytime photos and nighttime spectaculars.
– Jungle River Cruise takes guests on a guided boat journey through Adventureland’s dense jungle scenery. Skippers lead the expedition past animatronic wildlife, ancient ruins, and dramatic set pieces, delivering commentary along the way. The attraction builds to a fiery finale that adds a sense of adventure and spectacle to the experience.
– Mickey balloons float above Main Street, U.S.A., instantly recognizable with their signature mouse-ear silhouette. Available in a range of colors and transparent layered designs, they are a favorite souvenir for guests of all ages. Clusters of these balloons add movement and color to the skyline of the park.
– World of Frozen and the walking Olaf introduce cutting-edge technology to the park’s newest themed land. In early 2026, a new free-roaming, AI-powered Olaf animatronic debuts, designed to interact dynamically with guests as he strolls through the village of Arendelle. This innovation enhances the immersive storytelling that defines the World of Frozen experience.
– Dumbo the Flying Elephant brings a classic Disney attraction to Fantasyland. Guests board colorful flying elephants and gently soar above the spinning water feature below. The ride’s cheerful music and whimsical design make it a timeless favorite for families.
– Little Green Aliens from Toy Story (although blue in the design of the ornament) appear in attractions and themed areas inspired by Andy’s backyard. Their wide eyes and playful presence add a sense of humor and charm. They have become one of the park’s most photographed characters.
– Mickey and Minnie dancing capture the joyful spirit of Disney entertainment. Whether performing in stage shows, parades, or seasonal celebrations, the iconic duo often appears in coordinated costumes, greeting guests and leading energetic dance numbers. Their presence reinforces the sense of celebration that defines a day at Hong Kong Disneyland.
