Discovery Series – Hong Kong Disneyland
I found some better pics of the Discovery Series Hong Kong Disneyland to share with you. It seems that the design of the bigger mug adds a few attractions from the park that did not fit on the ornament. Also, I would like to mention the interesting detail about the box cover: some of the writing is done in three languages: English, French and Spanish. We’ve seen this done for Star Wars mugs and ornaments, but not the “regular” Disney Discovery collection.
Hong Kong Disneyland opened on September 12, 2005, on Lantau Island, becoming the first Disney theme park in China. Developed through a partnership between The Walt Disney Company and the Hong Kong SAR Government, the park marked an important step in Disney’s expansion across Asia. Although the park began as one of the smaller Disney resorts, it has grown steadily through major expansions and new themed lands. A defining milestone came in 2020 when the original Sleeping Beauty Castle was transformed into the larger and more elaborate Castle of Magical Dreams, signalling a new chapter for the park.
The design highlights several attractions, characters, and park icons that capture the atmosphere and imagination of Hong Kong Disneyland.
– The Sleeping Beauty Castle was the original central landmark of Hong Kong Disneyland when the park opened in 2005. Designed after the classic Disney castle seen in California, it served as the visual centrepiece of the park for many years. The castle was closed and redesigned during the park’s expansion project. In 2020, it was replaced by the much larger Castle of Magical Dreams.
– Mystic Manor is one of the park’s most unique attractions. Located in Mystic Point, the ride follows the adventures of Lord Henry Mystic and his mischievous monkey companion, Albert. Guests travel through a mysterious mansion where enchanted objects come to life through advanced ride technology and elaborate visual effects.
– It’s a Small World celebrates cultures and traditions from around the globe. The gentle boat ride passes through colourful scenes featuring singing dolls representing different countries and regions. Its cheerful theme song and bright design have made it a classic Disney attraction enjoyed by generations of visitors.
– Fairy Tale Forest offers a quiet walkthrough area inspired by beloved Disney princess stories. Detailed miniature scenes recreate moments from films such as Tangled, Beauty and the Beast, and Cinderella. The area invites guests to slow down and explore storytelling through interactive displays and charming landscapes.
– The Castle of Magical Dreams rises at the center of the park as its modern landmark. Reimagined in 2020, the castle honours several Disney princesses and queens with architectural styles inspired by their stories. Its colourful towers and decorative details make it one of the most recognizable features of the park.
– Mickey balloons are a familiar sight along Main Street, U.S.A. Their transparent outer shell and bright inner Mickey shape make them instantly recognizable as they float above the crowds. These playful balloons have become one of the most popular souvenirs for visitors.
– The free-roaming Olaf animatronic in World of Frozen introduces a new level of interactivity to the park. Debuting in early 2026, this AI-powered version of Olaf can move freely and interact with guests throughout the Arendelle village. The technology helps bring the Frozen story world to life in a more dynamic way.
– Dumbo the Flying Elephant remains a classic Fantasyland attraction. Riders board colourful elephants and gently soar above the spinning ride platform while controlling how high they fly. Its cheerful theme and simple design make it especially popular with families.
– Little Green Aliens from Toy Story appear in themed attractions and merchandise areas inspired by Andy’s backyard. With their wide eyes and signature “ooooh” expressions, the aliens add a playful touch that fans of the films instantly recognize.
– Mickey and Minnie dancing represent the joyful entertainment found throughout the park. The iconic duo regularly appear in parades, stage shows, and seasonal celebrations, greeting guests and performing lively routines that bring energy to the streets.
– Jungle River Cruise invites guests on an adventurous boat expedition through dense jungle landscapes. Guided by humorous skippers, the journey passes through scenes filled with wildlife, ancient ruins, and dramatic effects. The ride concludes with an explosive finale that has made it one of Adventureland’s most memorable attractions.
