You Are Here – Bodø
Bodø is a city unlike any other. Located just north of the Arctic Circle, it is home to the world’s northernmost Starbucks store, making this You Are Here Bodø mug a particularly special release for collectors. Surrounded by dramatic fjords, rugged mountains, and some of Norway’s most spectacular natural scenery, Bodø serves as a gateway to the Arctic. The design celebrates the city’s unique location and highlights the natural phenomena and landmarks that make this corner of northern Norway so remarkable.
Here are some of Bodo’s landmarks and symbols that were selected for the design of the mug.
– The Bodø Peninsula and surrounding fjords form the foundation of the mug’s design. The city occupies a peninsula that extends into the Norwegian Sea, with fjords and coastal waters shaping both the landscape and daily life. The combination of mountains, islands, and open sea creates some of the most striking scenery found anywhere in Scandinavia.
– The mountain peaks visible across the fjords are another defining feature of the region. From Bodø, visitors can enjoy views of dramatic Arctic mountains rising directly from the coastline. These peaks provide countless opportunities for hiking, photography, and outdoor exploration, while serving as a constant reminder of the powerful forces that shaped Norway’s landscape.
– The Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, is one of the most magical experiences associated with Bodø. During the darker months of the year, ribbons of green, purple, and pink light can often be seen dancing across the Arctic sky. The city is considered one of the best places in Norway to witness this natural phenomenon, attracting visitors from around the world.
– The midnight sun is represented by the bright sun shown on the back of the mug. Thanks to Bodø’s location above the Arctic Circle, the sun remains visible around the clock for part of the summer. Experiencing daylight at midnight is one of northern Norway’s most memorable sights and creates long, seemingly endless summer days.
– The White-Tailed Eagle reflects the rich wildlife of the region. As Europe’s largest bird of prey, this impressive eagle is commonly seen along Norway’s northern coastline. With its broad wingspan and commanding presence, it has become one of the most iconic animals associated with the Arctic landscape.
– Kjerringøy Trading Post represents an important piece of northern Norway’s history. Located north of Bodø, this remarkably preserved 19th-century trading station offers a glimpse into life during the era when fishing, trade, and maritime commerce shaped communities along the Norwegian coast. Today, it stands as one of the country’s best-preserved historical sites.
– Saltstraumen Bridge and the Saltstraumen maelstrom complete the design. The bridge spans the narrow strait where some of the world’s strongest tidal currents rush between the fjords. As enormous volumes of water squeeze through the channel, powerful whirlpools form below, creating one of Norway’s most famous natural attractions. The phenomenon has fascinated travellers, fishermen, and scientists for generations and remains one of the highlights of any visit to the Bodø region.
