You Are Here – Bremen
I stopped counting how many German YAHs there are already. Here’s is another one, brand new You Are Here – Bremen. It has been spotted 2 days ago, but it is only now that I got the picture to share with you, thanks to a friend.
Bremen is a major economic hub of the northern regions of Germany. Many international companies have headquarters here. That’s maybe what designers were trying to emphasize by placing some tall buildings in the background on the front of the mug. I was not able, however, to identify what those are. I do recognize Bremen-Walle Telecommunication Tower which is 771ft tall and probably offer amazing views of the city. Why probably? Because it is closed to the public and plans to open the restaurant there were never put in action.
At least two historical buildings can be found on the mug:
– Bremen Cathedral which is situated in the market square in the center of Bremen. It survived multiple rebuilds and restorations throughout the centuries. The biggest damage it suffered was the collapse of the southern belfry, on January 27, 1638.
– Bremen Hauptbahnhof (German for Bremen main station) is the most important rail station for both the city and state of Bremen.
The soccer ball on the side of the mug, refers to Werder Bremen (Sportverein Werder Bremen von 1899 e. V.) a soccer club, one of the top clubs in the Bundesliga, the top league of German football league system. They won the Bundesliga championship four times.
And finally, the “Town Musicians of Bremen” statue reminds us of a popular fairy tale retrieved and recorded by Grimm Brothers. It is about four animals: a donkey, a dog, a cat, and a rooster who decided to run away from their masters to become musicians. Contrary to the story’s title the characters never got to Bremen, instead, they tricked and scared a band of robbers, forcing those to leave their house and leave all their belongings to four brave friends. This story became very popular and had many interpretations in the form of movies, animated pictures, songs, and theatre plays.
Some more of the buildings/ objects on Bremen YAH:
– the flagstaff of shipping companys

– Bremische Bürgerschaft (parliament building) https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bremische_Bürgerschaft
– Sail City Hotel of Bremerhaven (looks a little similar to Burj al Arab 😉) https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantic_Hotel_Sail_City
– River „Weser“ in front and therefore some of the buildings must be of street „Schlachte“ https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schlachte_(Bremen)
– maybe also the distinct „Schnoor“ https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schnoor
Thank you for this great page! I always have a look before travelling 😁
Greetings from Bremen (I have to search for the pyramid now… still no idea)
