Discovery Series – Saskatchewan

In addition to the symbols of the province featured on the ornament, the design of the Discovery Series – Saskatchewan seems to include a few others. However, I’m not entirely sure that the bird and flower depicted are actually Saskatchewan’s official provincial symbols. For instance, the yellow flowers look nothing like the province’s floral emblem, the Western Red Lily (Lilium philadelphicum). The same goes for the bird – it doesn’t resemble the Sharp-Tailed Grouse. Nonetheless, here is some information about these elements:

– The Western Red Lily, also known as the prairie lily, is Saskatchewan’s official provincial flower.… Read more

Discovery Series – Auburn University

Discovery Series – Auburn University is an interesting release, as it represents another addition to the Campus Collection for a university that didn’t receive a mug in the previous series (Been There).

Auburn University, located in Auburn, Alabama, was founded in 1856 as the East Alabama Male College under the Methodist Church. It became the first land-grant college in the South under the Morrill Act in 1872 and was renamed the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama. In 1899, it adopted the name Alabama Polytechnic Institute, reflecting its expanded curriculum, and finally became Auburn University in 1960 to better represent its growing academic scope.… Read more

Discovery Series – Hollywood

If I recall correctly, the Discovery Series – Hollywood is the first Starbucks mug for this famous neighbourhood in Los Angeles. Hollywood, originally a small independent community, was founded in 1887 and officially became a part of Los Angeles in 1910. Its transformation began in the early 20th century when filmmakers, drawn by the area’s mild climate and diverse landscapes, started setting up studios there. By the 1910s and 1920s, Hollywood had become the center of the American film industry, with iconic studios like Paramount, Warner Bros., and Universal establishing a lasting presence.… Read more

Discovery Series – Miami

Discovery Series – Miami is coming together with the ornament that we’ve seen earlier this week. Here is how the big mug is different from its mini sibling:

– The dominoes on the front of the ornament are likely a nod to Máximo Gómez Park, more affectionately known as Domino Park, a vibrant community hub in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood. Located along Calle Ocho (SW 8th Street), this small park is famous for its daily gatherings of local Cuban elders who play intense games of dominoes and chess, often drawing curious onlookers and tourists.… Read more

Discovery Series – South Dakota

Discovery Series – South Dakota is larger than the ornament I reviewed earlier and features more design elements. Let’s go over those that were added:

Ellsworth Air Force Base, located near Rapid City, is one of South Dakota’s most significant military installations. Established in 1942, it has played a vital role in the nation’s defense, particularly during the Cold War, when it housed B-52 bombers and intercontinental ballistic missiles. Today, it remains an active base, home to the 28th Bomb Wing and a key part of the U.S.… Read more

Discovery Series – Warner Bros. Studios

While Starbucks is releasing quite a few mugs from the new collection on a daily basis, I’m trying to share the most interesting ones with you first. Discovery Series – Warner Bros. Studios is a good example of a location that didn’t receive Starbucks mugs before. I haven’t seen the ornament yet, but I really hope it comes out soon. Interestingly enough, the bottom of the mug has a small ‘Warner Bros.’ logo that distinguishes it from other Discovery mugs; however, the box is standard.… Read more

Discovery Series Star Wars – Geonosis

I almost forgot to add Discovery Series Star Wars – Geonosis to my wish list. It is the third mug from the Star Wars collection which was released on May 4th, 2025 along with Kashyyyk and Tatooine.

Geonosis holds major significance in the Star Wars franchise as the birthplace of the Clone Wars. It was on this desert planet that the first large-scale battle between the Galactic Republic and the Separatists erupted in Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Geonosis is also where the secret construction of the first Death Star began and where Count Dooku and the Separatists plotted in secret.… Read more

Discovery Series – University of Hawaii

Discovery Series – University of Hawaii is the second mug from the Campus Collection that I’ve recently come across. It seems that Starbucks is continuing its trend of releasing mugs for universities that previously didn’t have any. It is very important to note that the box is custom for all the mugs from this collection. There is also “campus collection” writing on the bottom, along with the picture of a mortarboard. Stay tuned for more releases of this kind!

The University of Hawaii was founded in 1907 as a land-grant college and became a full university in 1920.… Read more

Discovery Series Star Wars – Kashyyyk

The second mug from the recently announced trio is the Discovery Series Star Wars – Kashyyyk. What I like about these is that the circle on the front of the mug has a custom color, depending on the planet. It is, unfortunately, not the case for the state and city mugs – they all have the same dark green color circle.

Kashyyyk, the lush, forest-covered homeworld of the Wookiees, is one of the most iconic planets in the Star Wars galaxy.… Read more

Discovery Series – Yosemite

Discovery Series – Yosemite is the first National Park mug in the new collection. Since there aren’t many parks with Starbucks stores, Yosemite might remain the only mug of this kind.

Yosemite National Park was officially established on October 1, 1890, but its story starts earlier. In 1864, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Yosemite Grant, protecting Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias, marking the first time land was set aside by the federal government specifically for preservation. Influential figures like John Muir fought hard to expand protections, and their efforts helped shape the national park system we know today.… Read more
