Starbucks Been There – Cordoba is the fifth and the last Argentinian mug from this series for now. It is the second-most populous city in Argentina and one of the oldest Spanish settlements in this region.
Here are some points of interest worth visiting:
– La Cañada de Córdoba is the canal going through the whole city. It’s a quaint, tree-lined avenue with iconic, stone walls and bridges that is a great pleasure to stroll along.
– The Arc de Córdoba (Arco de Córdoba) was built in 1943 and can sometimes be seen on the postcards as the symbol of the city.
– Asociación Deportiva Atenas a.k.a. Atenas de Córdoba is a sports club founded in 1938 and is mostly known for its achievements in basketball. To be more specific, the basketball team won nine National Championships, making it the most successful club in the league.
– Cordoba wine region is one of the oldest in South America dating back to the 16th century. It was sweet wine which was originally produced here, however, many more varieties are present in the region today, like malbec, pinot noir, and chardonnay. Grapes grown in Cordoba have a distinct and robust flavor thanks to its rich soil and high temperatures.
– The Eiffel Wheel (Rueda Eiffel) a.k.a. Vuelta al Mundo de Córdoba is a large iron Ferris wheel, which is believed to be designed by Gustave Eiffel (author of the famous tower). Interesting to note, that it was originally located in the city of San Miguel de Tucumán under the name of “Monumental Wheel”. It was later bought by Cordoba government, moved here and re-assembled. The wheel went through a couple of renovations till 1970, when it has to be stopped due to the risk of collapse. It remained standing until 1992 though when it collapsed completely. Later in the 90s, it was decided to rebuild the wheel, but in a form of non-functioning monument. The new wheel was re-inaugurated in 2003 being a complete copy of the original, but not being able to carry passengers. It is an iconic landmark of Córdoba nowadays.
