Been There – Tulum
Tulum is one of the eleven municipalities of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. Starbucks Been There – Tulum is a mug for one of the archaeological sites which that municipality is home to. This is the third most-visited archaeological site in Mexico thanks to its proximity to Riviera Maya and Cancun in particular. The ruins of a pre-Columbian Mayan walled city are situated on a 40ft tall cliff. It served as a major port for Coba and saw its development peak in the 13th-15th centuries. It was later abandoned due to a decline in population, which in turn was caused by, what is believed, the diseases brought by the Spanish settlers.
The area surrounding Tulum is a popular touristic region with multiple hotels and beaches. Apart from relaxing on the beach, the visitors’ favorite activities include taking tours to admire local flora and fauna which the rest of the mug is filled with. Riviera Maya is indeed a natural paradise with beautiful scenery of rain forests and mangroves which are always green and fresh thanks to the region’s climate. Let’s not forget the marine flora and fauna as well. The second-largest reef in the world stretches along the Riviera Maya, where more than 500 species of fish live.
