Discovery Series – University of Hawaii
Discovery Series – University of Hawaii is the second mug from the Campus Collection that I’ve recently come across. It seems that Starbucks is continuing its trend of releasing mugs for universities that previously didn’t have any. It is very important to note that the box is custom for all the mugs from this collection. There is also “campus collection” writing on the bottom, along with the picture of a mortarboard. Stay tuned for more releases of this kind!
The University of Hawaii was founded in 1907 as a land-grant college and became a full university in 1920. Today, it operates as a statewide system with three major campuses: UH Mānoa (the flagship), UH Hilo, and UH West Oʻahu. The system serves students across the Hawaiian Islands and has grown into a respected center for research, education, and cultural exchange.
– The official seal shows a torch and globe, symbolizing knowledge and a global mission. Its colors—green and white—represent growth and renewal. The mascot, Vili the Warrior, draws from Native Hawaiian heritage and symbolizes strength and spirit.
– Hawai‘i Hall at UH Mānoa, built in 1912, is a historic anchor of the campus. The East-West Center promotes research and dialogue between the U.S., Asia, and the Pacific, with modern facilities shared by scholars worldwide. Kennedy Theatre supports the university’s top-ranked theatre and performing arts programs.
– The UH Rainbow Warrior Marching Band is a fixture at home football games and major campus events. Open to students from all majors, the band mixes Hawaiian elements with contemporary show-style marching. It plays a big role in school spirit and traditions.
– UH’s athletic teams, known as the Rainbow Warriors and Rainbow Wahine, compete in NCAA Division I. Football, volleyball, and baseball are especially popular, drawing strong support across the state. Sports at UH are deeply tied to island pride and community culture.
