You Are Here – Eindhoven
This beautiful Starbucks You Are Here Eindhoven mug is coming from the Netherlands. I love its colors and simple design.
Eindhoven is the fifth-largest city in the country located at the confluence of the Dommel and Gender rivers. It officially became a city in 1232 and experienced major growth in the 19th century thanks to the Industrial Revolution. Interestingly enough, electronics giant Philips was founded as a light bulb manufacturing company in Eindhoven in 1891. The city is a major technology and industrial hub and also is home to research institutes, like the Eindhoven University of Technology. I believe this is what the designers were referring to with that computer and head with gears.
The bulb symbolizes Phillips. Its headquarter is still located in the city.
I would also like to mention the Flying Pins structure which looks like a set of bowling pins that is struck by the ball at the end of the bowling alley. Constructed in 2000 it signifies the destruction faced by Eindhoven during WW2.
Guess I have to visit Eindhoven again. This mug was promised already in 2018 so it is about time it finally made it’s appearance 😉 Also on this mug: Eindhoven central station and a hint to Eindhoven airport. Not on this mug as it seems: The Evoluon, the former technology museum of Philips, but a congress center nowadays and a very distinct looking building.
The city of Amersfoort has his own mug now!
Bought it last month.
