Starbucks keeps releasing city YAHs for Europe. This is another one from France, You Are Here – Lyon.
Lyon located at the confluence of the rivers Rhône and Saôneis and is the third-largest city in the country. It is considered a major center for banking, as well as for the chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotech industries.
– the lion we see on the side of the mug is a symbol of the city and is depicted on the Flag and Coat of Arms of Lyon. The original name of the settlement is actually Lugdunum, which never fully recovered from the Battle of Lugdunum (year 197). The new city was built which had its name transformed from Lugdunum to Lugdon, then Luon, Lion and finally Lyon.
– a cinematograph (back of the mug) is a motion picture film camera, which also served as a film projector. It was developed in the 1890s in Lyon by Auguste and Louis Lumière. It is worth mentioning that brothers were not the inventors. It was invented and patented as the “Cinématographe Léon Bouly” by French inventor Léon Bouly on February 12, 1892. “Cinematograph,” literally means “writing in movement” in Greek. Bouly had to sell his rights to the device and its name to the Lumière brothers. In 1895 they presented a device that was a significant upgrade and can be considered their own creation.
