You Are Here – Xian

Starbucks You Are Here – Xi’an – is one of 23 Chinese mugs released in September 2017.
Xi’an is the capital of Shaanxi Province located in Northwest China. The two Chinese characters “西安” in the name Xi’an mean “Western Peace”. Xi’an is the oldest of the Four Great Ancient Capitals and the starting point of the Silk Road and home to the Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang.
Terracotta Army is a collection of terracotta sculptures buried with the emperor in 210–209 BCE and whose purpose was to protect the emperor in his afterlife.… Read more

You Are Here – Wuxi

Starbucks You Are Here – Wuxi – is one of 23 Chinese mugs released in September 2017.
Wuxi is an old city in the province Jiangsu, China. It borders with two other large cities: Changzhou and Suzhou. As many typical old Chinese cities, Wuxi has a circular plan and is crossed by multiple canals. This is depicted on the mug as well – sailing boats and a bridge. I think the pagoda is for Liyuan garden.… Read more

You Are Here – Wuhan

Starbucks You Are Here – Wuhan – is one of 23 Chinese mugs released in September 2017.
Wuhan – is the capital of Hubei province and is the most populous city in Central China. Being a central hub in the domestic transportation, Wuhan is sometimes called Chicago of China.
I definitely see Yellow Crane Tower – traditional Chinese tower which was rebuilt numerous times due to war and fire. Current tower dates back to 1981 and is a mile away from the original place.… Read more

You Are Here – Ankara

Even though all attention is now focused on the Disney YAHs, there is one international release which was revealed today. Turkey capital is finally getting own mug from You Are Here Series, yes, I am talking about Ankara. It is also the second largest city in the country, after Istanbul. It was a small town in the beginning of 20th century, but since 1920, when Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his associates chose it as a center of their resistance movement against the Allies, it grew into what we can see now.… Read more

You Are Here – Glasgow

You probably remember I was complaining about Glasgow YAH not being released prior other Scottish cities. Well, here it is – brand new You Are Here Glasgow. Finally! Did you know it is the largest city in Scotland? It’s peak population has reached 1,127,825 people in 1938 during Industrial Revolution. It has declined since people relocated to suburbs. Interesting fact: citizens of the city are referred to as “Glaswegians” or “Weegies”.
I tend to believe the inside of the mug is dark blue, my favorite.… Read more

Yau Are Here – Dusseldorf

Another mug from Germany – You Are Here Dusseldorf. The total count of German mugs comes to eight. Again we see local variant of writing the name, with the O modified with what is known as an “umlaut mark”.
Dusseldorf is the seventh most populous city in Germany and an international business and financial centre known for fashion and trade fairs.
I only see some buildings, the river Rhine and red carnival cap for Rhenish Carnival celebrations held every year in February / March
I see no trace of Rheinturm – a 240.5 metre high concrete telecommunications tower.… Read more

You Are Here – Den Haag

This is the third YAH from Netherlands. Again Starbucks has used native (in this case Dutch) version of the name – You Are Here – Den Haag. You probably know it better as The Hague. By coincidence this is the third-largest city in the Netherlands. Over 150 international organisations are hosted here. Probably the most noticeable are International Court of Justice (ICJ), the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The colors of the mug are pretty vivid, yet Icon collectors might not like it.… Read more

You Are Here – Aberdeen

Scotland scores again. Welcome the new mug from You Are Here series – Aberdeen. This city is only third by population in Scotland, yet it now has YAH and Glasgow doesn’t. Don’t forget, Edinburgh has been released long time ago too. Hey, Starbucks, what is your logic? It’s not like I am complaining, just trying to understand you.
As for the mug itself, I would like to mention Aberdeen Beach and Queens Links which is famous for it’s golden sand. Unfortunately it suffers from erosion and multiple actions are performed in order to protect it.… Read more

You Are Here – Newcastle Upon Tyne

While on vacation I missed to add two new mugs from the You Are Here series list. Starbucks in not very consistent in releasing those – one week we get nothing, the other week we get two. Anyway, please welcome Newcastle Upon Tyne mug.
This city from North East England, also commonly called simply Newcastle, is the most populous in this region. As you can see from the pic, The Castle is seen on the front of mug, which gave the name for the city.… Read more

You Are Here – Roermond

Do you remember good old days when Amsterdam was the only YAH outside of US? Since then so many mugs were released that International YAHs outnumbered US YAHs. Well, the second Dutch You Are Here mug is finally here – Roermond. The color scheme is very much different from Amsterdam YAH, and is mostly orange. I expected to see both churches depicted – St. Christopher’s Cathedral and Roermond Minster or ‘Munsterkerk’, but could only recognize the first.
Similar to my previous post from today, there is no Icon or Relief for this city.… Read more
