Discovery Series Ornament – Georgia

Here are the symbols and landmarks that we can see in the design of the Starbucks Discovery Series Ornament – Georgia:

– Georgia is known for its beautiful state flower, the Cherokee Rose, which blooms in white with a golden center. In gardens across the state, azaleas flourish, adding vibrant pinks, reds, and purples to the landscape. The blooming dogwood trees are a sure sign of spring in Georgia, with their delicate white flowers dotting the forests. Flowers like magnolias and camellias also thrive in Georgia’s warm climate, offering fragrant blossoms throughout the year.… Read more

Discovery Series Ornament – North Carolina

Discovery Series Ornament – North Carolina is an espresso version of the bigger mug that I’ve reviewed here. There are only 5 state symbols and landmarks that made it to the design of the ornament:

– The Appalachian Range, is a defining feature of the state’s natural beauty. These ancient, rolling peaks offer breathtaking vistas, dense forests, and diverse wildlife, making them a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. The Blue Ridge Parkway, a scenic drive through the mountains, showcases the area’s stunning landscapes, attracting millions of visitors each year.… Read more

Discovery Series – Michigan

I’ve reviewed Michigan Ornament recently, and Discovery Series – Michigan is a full-size version. The matching symbols from these two are: the Petoskey Stone, cherries, Mackinac Bridge, Robin Redbreast, and Ford Model T. The following elements are specific to the mug only:

– The painted turtle (Chrysemys picta) is the official state reptile of Michigan, known for its distinctive, colorful markings. These turtles have smooth, dark shells adorned with red, orange, and yellow streaks along the edges. Painted turtles are commonly found in Michigan’s ponds, lakes, and marshes, basking on logs or rocks in the sun.… Read more

Discovery Series Ornament – Michigan

Discovery Series Ornament – Michigan is the release for the Great Lakes State, which has a rich history that dates back to its Indigenous peoples, including the Anishinaabe tribes. European exploration began in the 17th century with French fur traders, leading to the establishment of settlements and missions. The region became a state in 1837, driven by its booming lumber industry and later the automotive revolution, which transformed its economy and identity. Today, Michigan is renowned for its stunning natural landscapes, vibrant cities, and cultural heritage.… Read more

Discovery Series – Niagara Falls

Here’s the bigger version of the ornament that we’ve seen earlier. When compared to the mini mug, the design of the Discovery Series Niagara Falls has way more details. Let’s review them together.

But before we do that, I would like to mention an interesting fact about Niagara Falls. Did you know that this famous group of waterfalls is continuously evolving due to both natural and human influences? Erosion, a key natural process, gradually reshapes the falls as the powerful water flow wears away the underlying rock layers.… Read more

Discovery Series Ornament – Niagara Falls

The second of only two ornaments planned for Canada is now out. Discovery Series Ornament – Niagara Falls should be available on both Canadian and US sides around the famous group of three waterfalls at the southern end of Niagara Gorge.

These three waterfalls are:

Horseshoe Falls, also known as the Canadian Falls, is the largest and most famous of the three. It spans the international border between Canada and the United States, with the majority of the falls located on the Canadian side.… Read more

Discovery Series – Canada

I include a picture of the box together with the newly released Discovery Series Canada mug to emphasize one particularity of the Discovery mugs from Canada, namely the typo on the cover of the box. I am sure this will be fixed soon, so if you want to keep this piece of Starbucks memorabilia, I suggest you don’t wait for too long and get them rather sooner than later.

Compared to some other Discovery mugs, Discovery Series Canada has quite a few symbols and landmarks (I counted fifteen).… Read more

Discovery Series – Oregon

I’ve reviewed the smaller version of the Discovery Series – Oregon mug earlier, you can see that post here. In addition to Oregon’s rocky coast, duck, blackberries, mushrooms, and Bigfoot that we saw in the design of the ornament, these are the symbols and landmarks specific to the bigger mug:

– Although tulips are not native to Oregon, they can thrive in any region of the state with the proper care and planning. The tulip on the front of the mug is probably related to the annual Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival, held in Woodburn.… Read more

Discovery Series Ornament – Canada

If you follow my blog, you probably remember this post where I pointed out the grammatical error on the cover of the Niagara Falls mug. The newly released Discovery Series Ornament – Canada has this error too, but I am sure Starbucks will fix that soon.

As for the design of the new ornament, here are the symbols of Canada that we see in it:

– The beaver is one of the most enduring symbols of Canada, representing the country’s dynamic and hardworking spirit.… Read more

Discovery Series – Chicago

Starbucks Discovery Series – Chicago mug compliments the ornament that I reviewed earlier. I’ve already gone over these symbols and landmarks from the ornament: Chicago-style hot dog, the Chicago “L”, Chicago Botanic Garden, and Chicago’s musical heritage. In this post, we will take a look at the remaining elements of the design:

– The popcorn on the front of the mug is probably a reference to Garrett Popcorn Shops, which has been a staple since 1949. Garrett’s Chicago Mix, a delicious blend of caramel and cheese popcorn, has become a local and tourist favorite, embodying the city’s unique take on a classic snack.… Read more
