I can’t believe it has been more than a year since I added the Kentucky mug to the site. Time flies! It’s time to review the Discovery Series Kentucky Ornament.

Kentucky earned statehood in 1792 as the 15th state and the first west of the Appalachian Mountains, separating from Virginia to forge its own identity. The state’s name derives from a Native American word meaning “land of tomorrow” or “meadowland,” reflecting the fertile bluegrass region that attracted pioneers. Starbucks Discovery Series – Kentucky is a mug for the Bluegrass State. Originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Cherokee, Shawnee, and Chickasaw, Kentucky became part of the United States in 1792, making it the 15th state to join the union. Been There Ornament – Kentucky 2

It’s not only the full-sized mug that gets the update. Here is Been There Ornament – Kentucky 2 with the name of the longest cave system in the world spelled right. Interestingly enough, I didn’t notice this misspell when reviewing the first version of the ornament, even though I had it written as “Mammoth Cave” inside the post.

Long time no see, Starbucks. The most recent release brings the update for the “Bluegrass State”. Been There – Kentucky v2 introduces the change from “Mammoth Caves” to “Mammoth Cave” on the front of the mug. Although, the more I look at the mugs (see comparison picture below), the more I think it was actually “Mammuth”. They’ve definitely changed the look of that “o” (or was it “u”?). I really like Starbucks Been There Ornament Kentucky because of its blue palette. Two main elements from the front (way less than those from the bigger mug):
– Mammoth Cave – the longest cave system known in the world
– Bluegrass Balloon Festival – a.k.a. the Adam Matthews Balloon Festival, was the fifth largest hot air balloon festival in the United States, and the largest in the state of Kentucky
