Discovery Series – West Virginia
Here’s the release from the Mountain State. I have to admit, the colour chosen for the title of the Discovery Series West Virginia mug is not the strongest choice, as it tends to blend into the green background. Well, this is what makes it unique!
West Virginia, admitted to the Union in 1863, is a state defined by mountain landscapes, forested hills, and deep Appalachian traditions. Known as the Mountain State, it is shaped by winding rivers, small towns, and a strong connection to outdoor life. Its culture blends music, food, wildlife, and dramatic scenery into a distinct regional identity. The mug design brings these elements together in a vibrant Appalachian portrait.
Scattered across the design are several well-known West Virginia symbols and landmarks that highlight the state’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
– Northern Cardinal is the state bird of West Virginia. Recognized by its bright red plumage and clear, whistling song, it can be seen year-round throughout the state. Cardinals are commonly found in woodlands, backyards, and forest edges.
– Timber Rattlesnake serves as the state reptile. This venomous snake inhabits rocky hillsides and forested regions across West Virginia. It is known for its distinctive rattle and patterned scales.
– Rhododendron is the state flower and blooms in late spring and early summer. Large clusters of pale pink and white blossoms appear along mountain trails and forest roads. The plant thrives in higher elevations and shaded woodlands.
– Black Bear represents the state animal of West Virginia. These animals roam the forests and are frequently spotted in rural and mountainous areas. The black bear has become an enduring wildlife symbol of the region.
