Been There – Philippines Christmas 2025
Just when I thought I had completed the full list of Starbucks Been There mugs, I discovered a couple of releases from the Philippines that had slipped through the cracks. Navigating the many editions from this country is already a challenge, which makes carefully documenting each release all the more rewarding.
The Starbucks Been There Philippines Christmas 2025 introduces a fresh color palette alongside the other versions of this mug. Even the packaging adopts a matching green tone, perfectly complementing the festive design. The artwork is filled with Christmas-inspired elements, including a decorated tree, ornaments, and wrapped presents. As with other holiday editions, the iconic red Starbucks tumbler makes its familiar appearance, serving as a signature detail of the Christmas series.
The Philippines is an archipelagic country in Southeast Asia made up of more than 7,000 islands, known for its tropical landscapes, rich cultural traditions, and strong blend of Indigenous, Spanish, American, and Asian influences. From white-sand beaches and volcanic scenery to colorful festivals and bustling cities, the country offers an incredible variety of experiences across its regions. The Starbucks design reflects many of these recognizable cultural and natural symbols, combining everyday life, wildlife, transportation, food, and iconic scenery into a single composition. Even without focusing on the holiday elements, the mug clearly captures the identity and atmosphere of the Philippines.
Featured throughout the design are several symbols and landmarks closely associated with Filipino culture and daily life.
– Chocolate Hills appear prominently within the circular landscape scenes. Located on the island of Bohol, these unusually shaped limestone hills number in the thousands and turn brown during the dry season, giving them their famous “chocolate” appearance. They are considered one of the most iconic natural landmarks in the Philippines.
– Jeepney imagery references the country’s most recognizable form of public transportation. Created from surplus military jeeps after World War II, jeepneys evolved into colorful, highly decorated vehicles used throughout cities and towns across the Philippines. They have become a national cultural symbol.
– Bahay kubo, the traditional Filipino nipa hut, is shown among palm trees and tropical scenery. Built from bamboo and nipa palm materials, these elevated homes are designed to handle tropical heat and flooding. They remain closely associated with rural Filipino life and traditional architecture.
– Carabao, the national animal of the Philippines, appears near the top of the design. This water buffalo has historically played an essential role in agriculture, especially in rice farming communities. It is widely seen as a symbol of hard work and resilience.
– Tropical beaches and waterfalls are represented through coastal scenery and lush landscapes. The Philippines is internationally known for destinations such as Palawan, Boracay, Siargao, and Cebu, featuring turquoise waters, limestone cliffs, coral reefs, and jungle waterfalls.
– Filipino cuisine is highlighted through the food elements placed across the lower portion of the mug. Seafood, grilled dishes, rice-based meals, and tropical fruits all play major roles in the country’s culinary traditions. The design reflects the importance of food in Filipino gatherings and celebrations.
– The Philippine eagle appears on the right side of the mug. One of the largest and rarest eagles in the world, the critically endangered Philippine eagle is native to the country’s forests and serves as the national bird. Its presence adds an important wildlife conservation element to the design.
– The Philippines is home to extensive cave systems, underground rivers, and limestone formations spread across many islands. Sites such as the Puerto Princesa Underground River and the caves of Sagada are among the country’s best-known natural attractions.
