You probably remember my review of the You Are Here – Београд mug, the only mug in the series to use a Cyrillic city name. I assumed this was because both the Cyrillic and Latin alphabets are officially recognized and widely used in Serbia. That is why I was excited to discover the pictures of this You Are Here Belgrade mug. It means that Starbucks may also have considered releasing a version featuring the city’s Latin spelling. It is entirely possible that this variation was produced in very limited quantities, as I have never encountered another example apart from this eBay listing. Aside from the title, the design appears to be identical in every way, and you can compare the two versions side by side below.

One of the most recognizable landmarks on the mug is the Ada Bridge, which spans the Sava River and links the municipalities of New Belgrade and Čukarica. Opened in 2012, the bridge quickly became a symbol of modern Belgrade thanks to its striking cable-stayed design and towering central pylon. Today, it is considered one of the city’s most impressive engineering achievements.

The mug also features the Avala Tower, one of Serbia’s most famous structures. Rising from the summit of Mount Avala just south of Belgrade, the tower serves as both a telecommunications facility and a popular observation point. The current tower was completed in 2010, replacing the original structure that was destroyed during the NATO bombing campaign in 1999, and it has since become a symbol of the city’s resilience and renewal.

Two of Belgrade’s most important monuments are represented in the design. The Pobednik (The Victor), standing atop Belgrade Fortress, commemorates Serbia’s victories in the Balkan Wars and the First World War. Equally iconic is the Monument to Prince Mihailo, located in Republic Square. The equestrian statue honors Prince Mihailo Obrenović, a key figure in Serbia’s modernization and independence, and serves as one of the city’s most popular meeting points.

The historic Belgrade Fortress, often referred to as Kalemegdan Fortress, occupies a commanding position at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. For centuries, this strategic location made it one of the most important defensive strongholds in the region. The fortress complex, with its walls, gates, towers, and expansive parkland, remains one of Belgrade’s most visited attractions and offers some of the finest panoramic views in the city.
