Discovery Series – San Francisco

It seems that the Starbucks Discovery Series San Francisco mug has a little bit more detail compared to other mugs from this series. Here are some of them:

– The Golden Gate Bridge, an architectural marvel, was constructed between 1933 and 1937. Standing at an impressive height of 746 feet above the San Francisco Bay, this suspension bridge stretches over 1.7 miles in length. Its distinctive orange-red color, officially known as “International Orange,” was chosen for its visibility in the foggy conditions that often envelop the area.… Read more

Discovery Series Ornament – Tennessee

Starbucks Discovery Series Ornament – Tennessee is part of a fast-growing collection of mini mugs.

The name “Tennessee” is derived from the Native American word “Tanasi” or “Tanasqui,” which was the name of a Cherokee village in present-day Monroe County, Tennessee. The exact meaning of “Tanasi” is unclear, but it has been interpreted to mean “meeting place,” “winding river,” or “river of the great bend.” The word was first recorded in the 16th century by Spanish explorers and later adopted by English settlers.… Read more

Discovery Series Ornament – Virginia

When compared to the bigger mug, the design of the Discovery Series Virginia Ornament has much fewer elements. I went through most of the symbols and landmarks here, but let me at least mention the ones that made it into the design of the ornament:

– The Virginia state bird is the Northern Cardinal, adopted in 1950 for its vibrant plumage and melodious song.

– Virginia’s state flower, the American Dogwood, was designated in 1918, celebrated for its delicate blossoms that grace the state’s landscape.… Read more

Discovery Series – Utah

Starbucks Discovery Series – Utah is a colorful mug from the Beehive State. Utah is nicknamed so because the beehive is a symbol of hard work and industry, which reflects the values of the state’s early settlers. The beehive appears on the state flag of Utah and represents the persistence and perseverance of its people.

The origin of the name “Utah” is believed to come from the Ute Native American tribe, who were early inhabitants of the region. The word “Utah” is thought to derive from the Ute language and may mean “people of the mountains” or “high up.” This name was adopted when the area became a territory of the United States in the 19th century and later when it became a state in 1896.… Read more

First Discovery Series Canadian mug – First typo

Here is the photo of the Niagara Falls mug, the first mug from the Discovery Series that will be sold in both the USA and Canada. There was one detail in the writing on the cover of the box that felt weird, the moment I looked at it. The grammatically correct French spelling for the word “Discovery” should be “Découverte”, with the accent on the first “e” rather than the second one. So yes, what you see is the first typo found in the new Discovery Series.… Read more

Discovery Series Star Wars – Hoth

The highly anticipated release of the Discovery Series Star Wars Hoth mug is just around the corner, with only one day remaining until its official launch on May 4th. Today, Disney’s official account treated eager fans with a sneak peek at the front of the mug, unveiling more interesting details.

– The green circle that can be seen on all Discovery Series mugs (except Disney) and which represents, in a way, the Starbucks logo, is replaced by the blue circle. It is obviously a node to what Hoth planet looks like from space, like a pale blue sphere due to its dense snow and ice covering.… Read more

Discovery Series – Kentucky

Starbucks Discovery Series – Kentucky is a mug for the Bluegrass State. Originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Cherokee, Shawnee, and Chickasaw, Kentucky became part of the United States in 1792, making it the 15th state to join the union. Its strategic location and abundant natural resources made it a crucial battleground during the American Civil War, with significant battles like Perryville and Mill Springs fought on its soil. Discovery Series – Pennsylvania

Starbucks Discovery Series – Pennsylvania is a mug for a state in the northeastern US, one of the original thirteen colonies. Its name, meaning “Penn’s Woods,” pays homage to William Penn, the English Quaker who founded the colony in 1681. Penn sought to establish a haven for religious freedom and tolerance, principles that would shape Pennsylvania’s character for centuries to come. In 1776, it played a pivotal role in the American Revolution as the site of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia.… Read more

Discovery Series Ornament – New York City

These were discovered (pun intended) much faster than I expected. As you probably remember, in the case of the previous series of Starbucks collectibles, there was a six-month gap between the release of the mugs and the release of the ornaments. So I was mentally prepared to see the mini mugs from the Discovery series only closer to the end of the year. What was my amazement when I saw the photos of the brand-new Discovery Series Ornament – New York City today.… Read more

Starbucks Discovery Series – California is a fresh release for The Golden State. California, a state nestled along the western shores of the United States, boasts a captivating history with an intriguing origin for its name.
