Discovery Series – New Orleans

I can’t believe it has been a year since I reviewed the ornament from the Big Easy. It is time to take a look at the design of the Discovery Series New Orleans mug.

New Orleans’ history stretches back to 1718 when French colonists founded the city along a strategic bend in the Mississippi River. The city passed through French, Spanish, and French hands again before the Louisiana Purchase of 1803 brought it into the United States. This multicultural heritage created a unique Creole culture that blends French, Spanish, African, Caribbean, and American influences.… Read more

Discovery Series – Louisiana

Yesterday we reviewed the ornament, today let’s do the same for the Discovery Series Louisiana mug.

Louisiana’s history begins long before it became a state in 1812. The region was originally home to many Indigenous nations, including the Choctaw, Houma, and Chitimacha peoples. It later became a strategic French territory, ceded to Spain, then returned to France before being sold to the United States in the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. Over time, Louisiana earned the nickname “The Pelican State,” shaped by its river culture, Creole heritage, and unique blend of French, African, Caribbean, and American influences.… Read more

Discovery Series Ornament – Louisiana

Discovery Series Ornament Louisiana has arrived!

Louisiana has a history shaped by Native American nations, French and Spanish settlers, and a mix of cultures that grew together over hundreds of years. The state sits at the meeting point of major rivers, the Gulf of Mexico, and wide stretches of wetlands, all of which helped shape its way of life. From early trade routes to Cajun and Creole traditions, Louisiana has always been a place with its own style, rhythm, and flavour.… Read more

Been There – Louisiana 3

I had the pictures of the Been There Louisiana v3 mug sitting around, but for some reason, I forgot to make a post! There are probably very few people who care about these small differences, but it’s my job to make sure they’re documented for everyone’s reference. I’ve made a collage of all three versions for your convenience – see it below.

This mug is likely the last release from the U.S. within the Been There series. It’s the third revision, following the original misprinted version (v1) that was quickly replaced by a corrected one (v2).… Read more

Discovery Series Ornament – New Orleans

Discovery Series Ornament – New Orleans is an espresso mug for a city that has never received ornaments from previous collections. And it’s a shame because New Orleans has a lot to offer! It was founded in 1718 by French colonists, and as a key port city at the mouth of the Mississippi River, it became a melting pot of cultures, including French, Spanish, African, and Creole influences, shaping its unique identity. The city’s significance grew as it became part of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, marking a pivotal moment in American expansion.… Read more

Been There Ornament – Louisiana 2

Starbucks Been There Ornament – Louisiana 2 introduces subtle changes to the existing release. The easiest way to tell the two versions apart is to look at the group of three musical notes next to the tiny Starbucks coffee cup. The new version has all of the notes to the right of the cup, while the old version had one to the left and two to the right.

Other changes include:
– an additional musical note on the back of the mug;
– one of the mosquitoes is gone and the other one changed the place (so two versus three in total now);
– two sets of flowers are removed.… Read more

Been There Ornament – Louisiana

Starbucks Been There Ornament Louisiana has been released with no major delay (you probably remember the bigger mug errors?). It has green string and that’s what we see on the front:
– the steamboat – those played a major role in the 19th-century development of the Mississippi River
– the banjo – which originated in West Africa has a rich and complex history in New Orleans and more broadly Louisiana.
– Wetlands of Louisiana – swamp regions of southern Louisiana
– the catfish (I believe) – popular fish in swamp areas
– Magnolia – state’s official flower.… Read more

Been There – Louisiana

You guys remember my post about error mug, right? Well, Nebraska’s design wasn’t the only one Starbucks made the mistake in. As you can guess, other mugs which hasn’t been spotted in stores yet, are the ones with “issues”. There was an assumption that other “error” mugs didn’t make it to stores or were destroyed before the release, however a photo of Starbucks Been There Louisiana mug has just been revealed in the Facebook community.

Look closer at the back of the mug, it says “Laissez bons temps rouler” (Cajun French) that is literally translated from the English expression “Let the good times roll.” Well, the right phrase should be “Laissez les bons temps rouler”, which means Starbucks missed “les” word and is now going to replace the mug with the “fixed” one.… Read more
