Discovery Series – Nebraska

Discovery Series Nebraska is a mug for a heartland state where open prairie, agriculture, and frontier history continue to shape everyday life.

Nebraska’s history is closely tied to westward expansion and settlement in the 19th century. Long before statehood in 1867, the region served as a vital corridor for Native trade routes and later for pioneers traveling west along trails such as the Oregon, California, and Mormon Trails. The arrival of the railroad accelerated settlement, farming, and town development across the plains.… Read more

Discovery Series – Mississippi

Discovery Series Mississippi is a mug for the “The Magnolia State”.

Mississippi’s story is closely tied to the waterways and cultures that shaped the American South. Long before statehood in 1817, the region was home to Native American civilizations such as the Mississippian culture, whose influence remains visible in archaeological sites across the state. European exploration and river trade later transformed Mississippi into a key corridor for commerce, agriculture, and cultural exchange, especially along the Mississippi River. Over time, the state became a powerful cradle of music, cuisine, and traditions that continue to influence American identity today.… Read more

Discovery Series El Salvador follows the ornament that we’ve reviewed earlier.

El Salvador’s history stretches from ancient Mesoamerican civilizations to its modern identity as a resilient Central American nation. Long before Spanish colonization in the 16th century, the region was home to Indigenous peoples such as the Pipil, whose cultural influence remains visible today. Discovery Series Ontario is the mug for Canada’s most populous province, home to the nation’s capital, diverse landscapes, and vibrant cities like Toronto and Ottawa.

Ontario’s story is one of movement, trade, and transformation. The region was home to First Nations peoples for thousands of years before French explorers arrived in the early 17th century, followed by British control after the Treaty of Paris in 1763. Officially established as a province in 1867 at the time of Canadian Confederation, Ontario has since grown into the country’s most populous province, shaped by waves of immigration, industrial development, and its strategic location along the Great Lakes and major waterways.… Read more

Discovery Series – Manitoba

A colourful mug, Discovery Series – Manitoba, accompanies the ornament from this Canadian Province that we reviewed earlier.

Manitoba joined the Canadian Confederation on July 15, 1870, as the fifth province, created from the Red River Colony following Louis Riel’s Red River Rebellion. The province’s name derives from Indigenous words meaning “strait of the spirit,” referring to Lake Manitoba. Winnipeg grew into Manitoba’s capital as railways connected the prairies to eastern markets. Today, Manitoba balances Indigenous heritage, multicultural population, and agricultural economy while serving as Canada’s geographic heart.… Read more

Discovery Series – Miami University

Discovery Series Miami University is the latest addition to the Campus Collection.

Miami University was founded in 1809 in Oxford, Ohio – yes, Ohio, not Florida – making it the 10th oldest public university in the United States and predating the city of Miami, Florida by 87 years. The confusion persists to this day, with students constantly explaining that they attend Miami in Ohio, not the “U” in Florida. Named for the Miami tribe indigenous to the region, the university earned the nickname “Mother of Fraternities” as the birthplace of several major Greek organizations, including Beta Theta Pi, Phi Delta Theta, and Sigma Chi in the 1830s-1840s.… Read more

Wisconsin became the 30th state on May 29, 1848, after decades as a territory attracting immigrants from Germany, Scandinavia, and Poland who established farms and communities.
