Discovery Series – Myrtle Beach
The Starbucks Discovery Series Myrtle Beach is a mug for one of the most popular coastal destinations in the southeastern United States, located along South Carolina’s Grand Strand. Known for its long sandy beaches, amusement attractions, oceanfront entertainment, and relaxed vacation atmosphere, the city attracts millions of visitors every year. The Starbucks mug design captures this energetic seaside identity through a colorful mix of beach activities, boardwalk attractions, music, and coastal scenery. The artwork feels playful and busy, much like Myrtle Beach itself during the summer season.
Scattered throughout the design are several landmarks and symbols closely associated with Myrtle Beach and its oceanfront culture.
– Beach life and ocean activities are central to the artwork, with lounge chairs, umbrellas, and sandy shoreline scenes appearing across the mug. Myrtle Beach is famous for its wide Atlantic coastline and warm-weather tourism focused on swimming, relaxing, and family vacations.
– Parasailing appears high above the beach scenery near the left side of the design. The activity has become one of the most recognizable attractions along the Grand Strand, offering panoramic views of the coastline and ocean.
– Surfing and watersports are represented through surfboards, jet skis, and action-filled beach scenes. Myrtle Beach offers a wide range of ocean activities, including jet skiing, paddleboarding, banana boat rides, and parasailing during the busy tourist season.
– The Myrtle Beach SkyWheel appears near the center-right portion of the artwork. Opened in 2011 along the boardwalk, the large observation wheel quickly became one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks and offers sweeping views of the Atlantic coastline.
– The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk is reflected through the amusement-style attractions and oceanfront structures shown throughout the design. Stretching along the beach, the boardwalk is filled with arcades, restaurants, souvenir shops, and entertainment venues.
– Live music and entertainment are represented through the large guitar and musical notes placed near the center of the mug. Myrtle Beach has long been associated with live entertainment theatres, beach music, country shows, and nightlife venues.
– Myrtle Beach Bike Week is represented through the motorcycle imagery near the center of the design. Held annually, the event brings thousands of riders to the Grand Strand and has become one of the largest motorcycle gatherings on the East Coast. During Bike Week, the area fills with custom motorcycles, live entertainment, group rides, and visitors from across the country.
– Golf culture is subtly referenced through the golf imagery near the right side of the mug. Myrtle Beach is often called the “Golf Capital of the World,” with more than 80 golf courses located throughout the surrounding region.
– Oceanfront skyline and colorful resort buildings complete the design with rows of hotels and attractions lining the coast. Myrtle Beach is known for its dense stretch of beachfront resorts, entertainment complexes, and vacation rentals extending along the Grand Strand shoreline.
