Discovery Series Ornament – Brasil
Starbucks Discovery Series Ornament Brasil is one of the many mini mugs released across Latin America. Brazil had never received an ornament before, with the closest equivalent being the demi-sized Icon series. As seen on the mug, the title is written in Portuguese, reflecting a common trend in which most of the new releases feature the destination’s local language.
Brazil is the largest country in South America, known for its immense biodiversity, energetic culture, world-famous festivals, and deep passion for music and sport. From tropical rainforests and Atlantic coastlines to bustling cities like Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Brazil combines natural beauty with one of the most recognizable cultural identities in the world. The Starbucks design captures this lively atmosphere through symbols connected to wildlife, celebration, coffee culture, and iconic landscapes. The result feels colorful, energetic, and unmistakably Brazilian.
Featured throughout the design are several symbols and landmarks closely associated with Brazil’s culture and identity.
– Jaguar appears as one of the dominant wildlife symbols in the artwork. As the national animal of Brazil, the jaguar represents strength, power, and the country’s rich biodiversity. These big cats are primarily found in the Amazon and Pantanal regions and remain one of South America’s most iconic predators.
– Coffee references one of Brazil’s most important exports and cultural staples. Brazil has been the world’s largest coffee producer for more than 150 years, with vast plantations spread across regions such as Minas Gerais and São Paulo. Coffee remains deeply connected to everyday life and the country’s economy.
– Soccer (football) is an essential part of Brazilian identity and culture. Brazil has won the FIFA World Cup five times, more than any other country, and has produced legendary players such as Pelé, Ronaldo, and Ronaldinho. From beaches and city streets to massive stadiums, football is present everywhere across the country.
– Brazilian Carnival is one of the most famous festivals in the world and a major highlight of the design. Held every year in February or March, 47 days before Easter, Carnival transforms cities across Brazil into nonstop celebrations filled with samba music, elaborate costumes, dancing, and massive street parties known as blocos. Rio de Janeiro hosts the internationally famous Sambadrome parades, where samba schools compete with giant floats and highly choreographed performances, while Salvador is known for its enormous trios elétricos — moving music stages that travel through packed crowds. During Carnival, millions of locals and tourists flood the streets, creating an atmosphere that is vibrant, loud, crowded, and almost nonstop for days. It is also one of the busiest and most expensive times to visit Brazil, with hotels and flights often booked months in advance.
– Sugarloaf Mountain (on the back of the ornament) represents one of Rio de Janeiro’s most recognizable landmarks. Rising nearly 1,300 feet (396 meters) above the harbor, the granite peak offers panoramic views of the city, beaches, and Guanabara Bay. The mountain has become an enduring symbol of Rio’s dramatic natural scenery.
