Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia and a city with roots stretching back to the Roman settlement of Barcino, founded more than 2,000 years ago. Relief – Lisboa

Here is another release from Portugal for a series that I thought was long discontinued. The Starbucks Relief Lisboa mug features Castelo de São Jorge, one of Lisbon’s most distinctive monuments. The oldest known fortification at this spot dates from the 2nd century BC, with archaeological evidence revealing traces of Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, and Muslims, confirming human occupation of the area since very ancient times. In 1147, King Afonso Henriques captured the castle from the Moors during the Siege of Lisbon, marking a turning point in Portuguese history.… Read more

Starbucks Relief Madrid is another mug that was not added to the site at the time of its release, so I am correcting that now.

Featured on the front of the mug is Almudena Cathedral, the principal Catholic cathedral of Madrid and one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. You Are Here – Euskadi

Here’s an interesting release for a country within a country. Officially, it is the Basque Autonomous Community, but probably a more common name is “The Basque Country”. Starbucks chose to use the local (Basque) name for the mug, hence the title is You Are Here Euskadi.
Speaking of the language, it is very important to note, that the Basque language (Euskera) is not related to Romance languages (Latin) like Spanish or French, and is one of the oldest languages that are being spoken today.… Read more

You Are Here – Alicante

I’ve almost missed this release from December 2020. It seems that Starbucks You Are Here – Alicante came out along with another Spanish mug that I’ve previewed yesterday.
Alicante is located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea with Mount Benacantil in the center of the city. The mountain (or rather the large hill) is 550ft tall and offers an opportunity to explore Santa Bárbara Castle and enjoy the views of the city below. I don’t see it on the front of the mug, but I am sure designers placed it on the back.… Read more

Starbucks You Are Here – Malaga mug is coming from Spain, making it the 12th YAH mug from this country, with 10 being regular and 2 Christmas (Spain and Madrid). This new mug has a very colourful design featuring the views of the city.
I would like to mention the fish on the skewer, that you can see on the right side of the front of the mug. These are Espetos de Sardinas, a local classic specialty, which is a must-try dish when visiting Andalusia.… Read more

You Are Here – Valencia

Starbucks You Are Here – Valencia mug has been revealed by an avid collector from Spain. I really like how they pictured The Falles (Fallas) – a traditional celebration held in commemoration of Saint Joseph and specifically La Cremà. The latter is a culmination point of the celebration when all “fallas” (decorations which include huge dolls) are burnt down. That’s what those “people on fire” are on the front of the mug.

Starbucks You Are Here – Canary Islands mug is probably the hardest to get from those released for Spain recently. And it’s not because there are too few stores (there are eight in total on two biggest islands), but because of the remote location of this autonomous Spanish archipelago. On the bright side, it’s a very popular touristic destination all year round. You can get there by plane or by boat from mainland Spain, for instance. The ferry option, however, will take quite some time (30-40h depending on the route).… Read more
