Been There Ornament – Maryland

Starbucks Been There Ornament Maryland mug has red string. What else:
– Ship’s wheel, sailboat, small crab and The Chesapeake State nickname – all these refer to Maryland being the home to Chesapeake Bay – 200 miles long estuary (a partially enclosed coastal body of brackish water with one or more rivers or streams flowing into it, and with a free connection to the open sea)
– The official flag of the State of Maryland consists of the 17th century heraldic banner with the colors and shield from the coat-of-arms of the Calvert-Crossland families of Sir George Calvert, the first Lord Baltimore.… Read more

Been There Ornament – California

Here’s The Golden State, Starbucks Been There Ornament California. The reason for this nickname is the discovery of gold in 1848 which had a dramatic effect on California’s economy, allowing it to grow rapidly from ex-Mexican territory, to becoming a free state of US in 1950. Unfortunately there was also the downside of this. Whole indigenous societies were attacked and pushed off their lands by the gold-seekers, called “forty-niners” (referring to 1849, the peak year for Gold Rush immigration).
I can also see a giant surf board and an ocean wave since surfing is very popular water-sport in California.… Read more

Been There Ornament – Missouri

A big portion of the front of Starbucks Been There Ornament Missouri mug is occupied by train. My guess this is related to Missouri Pacific Railroad, which was one of the first railroads in the United States west of the Mississippi River. Also:
– Stamp with a horseshoe – I think that’s for the Pony Express, which was a mail service delivering messages, newspapers, and mail between St. Joseph, Missouri and Sacramento, California.
– Ship’s wheel – marks the legendary steamboat era on the Missouri River
– White Hawthorn Blossom – state’s official flower… Read more

Been There Ornament – Idaho

I think Starbucks Been There Ornament Idaho is one of the prettiest so far. The mug has lots of blue elements, same color as the string. From the front of the mug:
– Spud State – my understanding this is one of the old nicknames. The most recent one is the Gem State.
– Hells Canyon on the border of Oregon and Idaho is only 10 miles long, yet it is North America’s deepest river gorge at 7,993 feet
– Lake with mountains in the background – this one is really hard to identify since Idaho have lots of lakes with mountains surrounding them, and they all look beautiful.… Read more

Been There Ornament – South Dakota

Another hard to get mug – Starbucks Been There Ornament South Dakota. It is very similar to ND BTO in terms of colors, since red and orange were used for the mug and orange for the string. Here’s the front of it:
– Mount Rushmore National Memorial – an iconic symbol of United States, depicting four US presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. Interesting fact – each president was originally to be depicted from head to waist (lack of funding didn’t allow this to happen).… Read more

Been There Ornament – North Dakota

Here’s probably one of the hard to get BTOs, due to the remoteness of the state – Starbucks Been There Ornament North Dakota. The string is orange and the whole mug is designed using red and orange palette. Here are the visual details:

– American bison and beaver – parts of NDs wildlife.… Read more

Been There Ornament – Montana

Let’s review some minis from Rocky Mountain Region. Here’s Starbucks Been There Ornament Montana. Green colors were used for the mug and the string. It is mostly nature which inspired designers when working on this mug:

– Black bear, American bison and birds of prey – are just some animals from the great variety of Montana’s wildlife.… Read more
