You Are Here – Bratislava

Here are the photos of the brand new city mug, Starbucks You Are Here – Bratislava provided by our reader. Who would have thought, that there are more YAH city mugs to be released?
Bratislava is the capital and the largest city in Slovakia. The city got its contemporary name in 1919 and it was known under its German name, Pressburg, or Hungarian name Pozsony, before that. Interestingly enough it was the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary between 1536 and 1783.… Read more

You Are Here – Riyadh

Starbucks You Are Here – Riyadh is a mug for the capital of Saudi Arabia. It is the largest city on the Arabian Peninsula with a population of more than 7 million people.
The mug features the city skyline with Al Faisaliyah Centre standing out in the background. It is the first skyscraper built in Saudi Arabia and is the third tallest building in Riyadh after the Burj Rafal and the Kingdom Centre. The golden ball that lies atop the tower is said to be inspired by a ballpoint pen.… Read more

You Are Here – Thessaloniki

Starbucks You Are Here – Thessaloniki is another mug from Greece, released recently. Thessaloniki is the second-largest city in the country, located on the north shore of the Aegean Sea. As pretty much anything in Greece it has a long history of periods of prosperity as well as periods of wars and occupation. Some of which led to considerable destruction of the city buildings. Nonetheless, it was always a major port and hub of the Kingdom of Macedon then the Roman Empire then the Byzantine Empire then the Ottoman Empire.… Read more

You Are Here – Crete

Starbucks You Are Here – Crete is an island mug rather than city mug if you will. Crete or Kríti is the largest of the Greek islands with a rich history. There are settlements found on the island, which date back to 130,000 years ago. Crete was later the center of the Minoan, Europe’s first advanced civilization (c. 2700–1420 BC) and hence full of myths and legends. Names and characters like Icarus, King Minos, the Minotaur, and even, Atlantis are all coming from Cretan mythology.… Read more

You Are Here – Sharjah

Starbucks You Are Here – Sharjah is the city mug from the United Arab Emirates which is the third-largest city in the country. Sharjah is also the name of the emirate, which is interesting in a way that it has a coastline of both the Persian Gulf to the west and the Gulf of Oman to the east.
I was not able to identify the building on the front of the mug, but it seems like one of the government facilities.… Read more

You Are Here – Lyon

Starbucks keeps releasing city YAHs for Europe. This is another one from France, You Are Here – Lyon.
Lyon located at the confluence of the rivers Rhône and Saôneis and is the third-largest city in the country. It is considered a major center for banking, as well as for the chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotech industries.

You Are Here – Jeddah

Here’s the fresh release from Saudi Arabia, Starbucks You Are Here – Jeddah. Other spellings of this city include Jedda, Jiddah or Jidda. Ans while Riyadh is considered the political and administrative center of Saudi Arabia, Jeddah is the country’s commercial center. Given the close proximity to the Red Sea, it is also a resort and seaport, second largest in Arabian Peninsula, after Dubai. Another very important role is that Jeddah serves as a gateway to Mecca (Islam’s holiest city), located just 40 mi to the east and Medina, 220 mi to the north.… Read more

You Are Here – Bern

Starbucks You Are Here – Bern is another Swiss mug released in January 2020. Bern (or Berne, as seen on Icon mug) is the capital of the country, but it was only released after Geneva, Lucerne, and Zurich.
Apart from cheese and mountains, which Switzerland is famous for, I am seeing the following points of interest on the mug:
– The Kornhausbrücke – a stone and iron bridge over Aare river. Btw, not seen on the mug but worth mentioning is the Untertorbrücke (German: Lower Gate Bridge) – an arch bridge built in wood in 1255 and then rebuilt in stone in 1461.… Read more

You Are Here – Basel

Starbucks You Are Here – Basel was released almost a month ago and I am finally adding it to the list.
Basel is the third most populous city in Switzerland and is located on the border with two other European countries – Germany and France. Interestingly enough, some of Basel’s suburbs are located outside of the country. Switzerland is a member of the Schengen Area so no passport check is required when crossing the border from France or Germany, however, since it is not a member of the EU, you have to declare any goods you bring in.… Read more
